The staff at NewYork Weill Cornell Department of Surgery is dedicated to providing general and specialized surgical care to patients with a wide range of clinical needs. The Department is organized into 13 clinical divisions, each outstanding in its expertise. Our leading medical practice, the Cornell Surgical Associates, focuses not just on clinical care, but on easing the often disorienting experience of surgery for patients and their families.
Surgeons of the Department are experienced in the most advanced treatments for a range of conditions. The Burns Center, the largest and busiest in the nation, has led to significant improvements in the survival rate and quality of life for both adult and child burn victims. The advanced care provided by the Minimal Access Surgery Center in numerous surgical specialties is using and developing innovative cutting edge techniques that cause less pain, leave less scarring, and have a shorter recovery time for patients undergoing surgical treatment.
The excellence of surgical care at the Department rests on the legacy of cutting edge research conducted by our surgeons, who have significantly impacted surgical care and treatment in several areas, including those relating to surgical oncology, transplantation, and acute trauma.
In addition to our clinical primacy and research excellence, the Department of Surgery is also a world-class teaching facility offering extensive training for medical students as well as continuing education for practicing physicians. The faculty of the General Surgery residency program aim to instill not only technical superiority, but also a deep understanding of the basic science of surgery and sense of clinical judgment. The Department also benefits greatly from NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center's association with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and other institutions in the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System.
