The merger of The New York Hospital and The Presbyterian Hospital made possible the development of three, state-of-the-art Centers of Excellence. They include a Gamma Knife Center for the treatment of brain tumors, a comprehensive Liver Transplant Center, and a Lung-Reduction Center for the treatment of severe emphysema and bronchitis. Additionally, the union makes NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital one of only three medical centers in the nation with both Adult and Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Centers.
The success of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital as a merged entity is evidenced by its ranking in the 1999-2006 U.S.News & World Report's Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals. According to the survey, in 2006 NewYork-Presbyterian ranked 6th in the nation, the best of any New York area hospital.
