"Our mission is to provide comprehensive care that can restore the highest quality of life after treatment. We pride ourselves on achieving the best outcomes for our patients through close communication among a multidisciplinary group of physicians and health professionals who are involved in the patients care."
  - Rache M. Simmons, MD, Chief of Breast Surgery

  • New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center is the first hospital in New York City to offer novel breast cancer treatment of a single dose of radiation at the time of surgery, which enables women with early stage breast cancer forego 6-7 week radiation regimen. Our multidisciplinary team of breast surgeons and radiation oncologists at the Weill Cornell Breast Center is the only one in the 5 boroughs of New York City to offer women INTRABEAM radiotherapy, an innovative radiation treatment delivered in a single dose at the time of surgery.
  • Affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital -- ranked #6 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Hospitals -- the Weill Cornell Breast Center offers patients access to the full range of specialty and subspecialty care that only a major academic medical center can provide.
  • The Weill Cornell Breast Center is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a national consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care for breast cancer patients. The Breast Center is one of only two NAPBC-accredited breast centers in New York City.
  • For more than 20 years and continuing to this day, Weill Cornell Breast Center surgeons have pioneered a number of innovative surgical techniques that have become standard practice to treat breast cancer throughout the country.
  • Weill Cornell breast surgeons were among the first to perform sentinel lymph node biopsy - a procedure that is widely used today.
  • Weill Cornell breast surgeons are among few worldwide who perform bone marrow examination at the time of breast cancer surgery to rule out micrometastatic disease, and also pioneered the concept of shrinking a tumor, in collaboration with radiation oncology and medical oncology, in order to remove it surgically.
  • At the forefront of ablating tumors with extreme temperatures, Weill Cornell Breast Center surgeons were the first in the New York metropolitan area to evaluate the use of radiofrequency and cryoablation to destroy both benign breast tumors and breast cancers.
  • Breast Center surgeons are currently leading a national, multicenter National Institutes of Health trial to evaluate cryoablation therapy for the treatment of small breast cancers.
  • Originating the field of oncoplasty, Breast Center surgeons were the first in New York City to perform the skin-sparing mastectomy technique, followed by areola and nipple-sparing techniques, transforming radical mastectomies to minimally invasive procedures that facilitate a more cosmetic outcome.
