Genetic Risk Assessment Program
Approximately 7-10% of breast and ovarian cancers occur because of an inherited gene mutation that is transmitted from parent to child. If you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, genetic counseling and testing may be appropriate for you. Individuals with a hereditary susceptibility to cancer can make informed decisions about how to reduce their risks. At the Weill Cornell Breast Center, genetic testing is performed on a blood sample along with pre- and post-test counseling. Our experienced team provides information about the interpretation of test results and the most appropriate screening methods to help identify cancers at early and treatable stage.
