Breast Surgery
Research Highlights
Weill Cornell breast surgeons are pursuing ongoing research that includes:
- Evaluating bone marrow samples retrieved at the time of surgery to determine if there is possible contamination or breast cancer cells in the bone marrow, and if so, to define the relationship between the presence of these micrometastatic cells and the primary breast tumor characteristics, with an assumption that the micrometastatic cells are derived from the primary tumor cells
- Investigating the use of thermography, rather than mammography, (heat rather than radiation) to detect changes in the breast
- Survey of women in their 30's with breast cancer
- Role of breast conservation therapy in women with Paget's disease of the breast.
