The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College is a unique model of integrated care, focusing on prevention, screening, treatment, support, research, and education for individuals who have or are at risk for developing gastrointestinal cancers, including pancreatic and colorectal cancers. The Center provides multidisciplinary, coordinated care for patients afflicted with these serious diseases under one roof with the participation of surgeons, oncologists, radiation therapists and critical adjunct personnel, such as genetic counselors, nutritionists and social workers. Active research is ongoing in the areas of pancreatic tumors, Barrett's esophagus, and colorectal cancer prevention. The Center also offers a range of health education programs and resources for patients and their families, as well as the public and health professionals.
The Jill Roberts Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center is an integrated clinical and research program with the goal of pursuing investigations to uncover the basic cause of these painful conditions. The Center's scientists enlist the expertise of several research laboratories, including one lab that has facilitated the establishment of an IBD tissue bank of more than 600 endoscopic and surgical specimens that will be pivotal to studying the molecular mechanisms of these disorders. Other collaborations involve studying bacterial and gene interactions in inflammatory disease and stem cell research.
