For patients on our waiting list or those who have received a transplant, our surgeons also perform many general surgeries. Due to the specialized care required for transplant recipients, it is often preferable to have any other required surgeries at the same hospital where your transplant occurred, and by your transplant surgeon, when possible.
Some examples of general surgeries that our transplant surgeons perform on our transplant recipients include:
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
- Hernia repair
- Appendectomy (for patients with appendicitis)
- Lysis of adhesions
- Parathyroidectomy (removal of parathyroid glands)
- Resection of small intestine (for patients with small bowel obstruction)
