About the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry
The Division of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, provides the full spectrum of dental services including restorative, periodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, temporomandibular joint disorders, oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial pathology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery. The Division participates in the Cleft/Craniofacial Disorders Clinic with members of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Otolaryngology, Neurological Surgery, Pediatrics, and Genetics, in conjunction with physicians from the Columbia Presbyterian campus. Our faculty includes one full-time and three part-time oral and maxillofacial surgeons, one full-time restorative dentist, three part-time restorative dentists, one full-time pediatric dentist, sixteen community-based oral and maxillofacial surgeons, two oral and maxillofacial medicine and pathology specialists, and twenty-seven community-based dentists and specialists. On-site private patient care is available in restorative dentistry, pediatric dentistry, temporomandibular joint disorders, oral and maxillofacial medicine and pathology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
The Division is based in recently renovated and expanded 4200 sq. foot Dental Center on the Hospital's 21st floor, a 2400 sq. foot pediatric facility on the 1st floor of the Helmsley Medical Tower shared between Pediatric Dentistry and Pediatric Surgery, and a 300 sq. foot treatment area on the Hospital's 23rd floor dedicated to patients with HIV Disease. Patient care is provided in 13 total treatment rooms; nine within the Dental Center, three in the Komansky Children's Dental Center and two in the Center for Special Studies. One Dental Center treatment room is equipped to provide care under outpatient anesthesia. All aspects of dental care are provided to a broad spectrum of healthy and medically compromised children and adults, with over 8000 patient visits recorded yearly.
